POLL RESULT: Electorates Tip Obaseki To Win Edo Governorship Election

Ahead of the Edo State Governorship election billed for Saturday, September 19, 2020, Edo electorates have tipped the sitting Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Godwin Obaseki to win the Governorship election in a recent poll by AllNews.

AllNews had in August set up an online opinion poll targeted at Edo voters that lasted for two weeks.

The poll was created to find out who the Edo electorate will want to emerge as the Governor of Edo State at the September 19 governorship election.

The election which is believed to be one of the toughest election the state ever witnessed in Edo state has 14 candidates, with much attention on Governor Godwin Obaseki of PDP and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Despite the prediction of violence at the forthcoming election, 56.3 per cent of our respondents indicated that they will be going out to vote, while 35.9 percent were yet to decide as to if they will be participating in the forthcoming election.

However, 7.8 percent of the respondents revealed that they will not be voting on election day.

While 67.9 percent of our respondents predicted that governor Obaseki would retain his seat, 28.4 per cent of our respondents predicted that the governorship election would go in favour of APC's candidate Ize-Iyamu, with 2.5 per cent of the respondent tipping Labour Party's candidate Osifo Isaiah to win and 1.23 per cent tipping Idehen Osagie Lucky of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for victory.

Also, a majority of the electorate identified Economic growth and job creation as the main issues that they expect the incoming governor to address.

With 61.1 percent of the respondents identifying economic growth as the most important issue that is pertinent to their votes, 31.3 percent of our respondents identified job creation as the major issue which they expect the incoming state government to address, with 7.2 percent putting healthcare as the most important issue and 4.3 percent expecting the incoming government to better strengthen the state security.
