Remote Work Is Not Ideal, It's An Aberration – Goldman Sac

David Solomon, the CEO of the Goldman Sachs Groups Inc. affirmed his position on Wednesday about wanting to see his workers come back to the office.

The 59-year-old CEO stated at a Credit Suisse Group AG conference about their employees working from home: "this is not ideal for us and it is not a new normal... It is an aberration that we are going to soon correct".

Solomon has been quite vocal in nudging the government to take measures that will speed up the return of workers to the office, urging them to leverage on the private sector.

“The vaccine distribution and the process of recovery have been a little bit slower in the first quarter than some of us had hoped,” Solomon said. But additional government stimulus and the potential for an infrastructure bill after that will provide a “very, very strong tailwind” for economic recovery, he said.

Sometime last year, Goldman Sachs had about a quarter of its workforce back in New York, another quarter in London, and as much as half its workers were in some outposts in Asia. Solomon, however, regarded it as a "temporary thing".

The Goldman CEO indicated the need to induct new analysts into the company but from their office desk. “I am very focused on the fact that I don’t want another class of young people arriving at Goldman Sachs in the summer remotely”, Goldman said.
