The Iranian Government on Sunday sanctioned a former aide of John Bolton, former US National Security Adviser, Richard Goldberg.
Goldberg also serves as a top member of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD).
The Iranian Government said that the sanction came after Goldberg was "actively involved in economic terrorism against the interests of Iran’s government and citizens," according to a statement from the country's foreign ministry, quoted by IRNA, state news agency.
The sanctions are hinged on a 2017 legislation “confronting America’s human rights violations and adventurist and terrorist acts in the region.”

Although, the major reason for the sanction was not given.
Goldberg's sanction comes after the sanction of the Chief Executive of FDD, Mark Dubowitz, who was sanctioned by Iran in 2019 for what was described as "economic terrorism".
According to members of the FDD, they are a “non-partisan research institute focusing on foreign policy and national security," working out of Washington.
