Second Wave: Not Less Than 20 Doctors Have Died Of COVID-19

In the heat of the second wave of COVID-19 virus, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has revealed that no fewer than 20 medical doctors have died of the deadly virus.

Making this revelation during a press briefing on Friday, the chairman of NMA in Abuja, Emma Amodu said that the doctors lost their lives while treating infected patients who refused to disclose their true medical situation.

Amodu who pleaded with patients to adhere to COVID-19 principle while visiting the hospital also urged the patients not to withhold information of their original health status, to avoid the further spread of the deadly virus.

“For those of us in the health sector, we have lost quite a number of colleagues in the last week alone. Across the country, we have lost not less than 20 doctors in the last one week.

“Tell us the truth about your past medical condition and don’t hold any information back,” he said.

Recall that the country had in recent weeks encountered an upsurge in the cases of Coronavirus.

Following the development, the federal government in a bid to contain the spread of the second-wave of the virus asked workers from level 12 downwards to remain at home for 5 weeks.

The federal government in the heat of the second-wave retreated the restrictions placed on social gatherings.

Also, in the heat of the second-wave, while the Lagos state government refused to impose a fresh lockdownthey however placed restrictions on social activities.

The state government as well cancelled the annual Cross over service usually held in churches across the state.
