Stanbic IBTC founder, Atedo Peterside said Nigerians should focus on the track record of individuals vying for the position of the President in 2023. Peterside has been vocal regarding the state of Nigeria's economy under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Peterside used former Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as an example of an individual with a good track record. He said Obi has a record of reducing the costs of governance - Obi was the former governor of Anambra State.

He was governor from March 2006 to November 2006, when he was impeached. But his impeachment was overturned and he continued as governor from February 2007 to May 2007. Prior to joining politics, Obi was the chairman of Fidelity Bank.

Nigeria's next presidential election is in 2023. While commenting about it, the Stanbic IBTC chairman said, "Peter Obi has a good track record of reducing the Costs of Governance. When discussing 2023 candidates we should put forward the track record of each candidate so we compare what each is bringing to the table."

Peterside had in different occasions faulted the policies of the government. He condemned the handling of the economy which allows only few wealthy individuals accumulate wealth while the young entrepreneurs have it difficult to survive in Nigeria.

He also condemned the decision of the Buhari government to open the land border to just a few companies, refusing to allow other businesses to use the same land border for their trade.
