Stock Market Today: Seplat Shares Soars As Guinness Falls In

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3,685 deals today, Wednesday, July 29, 2020, lower than the 3,780 deals it recorded on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, while the volume dropped to 101.5 million units today, from the 150.3 million units of Tuesday, while the value of trades was N973,6 million today; it was N1.9 billion on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 24,693.73 index points today, more than the 24,650.16 index points the market closed with on Tuesday.

Top Five Gainers

Seplat led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N28.2 kobo to close trading at N310.2 kobo per share after opening today's trading with N282 per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. BUA Cement was second on the table, as its stock price gained N0.4 kobo to close the market with N39.4 kobo per share, having started trading today with N39 per share.

UAC Nigeria was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with N0.2 gain to move from the opening price of N7 per share to N6.8 kobo per share. PZ Cussons came next, closing the market with a gain of N0.2 kobo to end trading with N4.1 kobo per share from the opening share price of N3.9 kobo per share. GlaxoSmith was last on the top five gainers table after its share price rose from N4.8 kobo per share to close trading at N4.9 kobo per share; representing a change of N0.1.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers list was Guinness, which had begun trading earlier today at N13.5 kobo per share, only to drop in price by N-0.5 kobo to close at N13 per share at the end of trading today. Wapco was second on the chart losing N-0.25 kobo in share price to close at N11.75 kobo per share after opening trade at N12 per share. Studio Press also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by N-0.19 kobo to close trading at N1.8 kobo per share, below the N1.99 kobo per share it opened with.

Arbico Plc closed the stock market at N1.39 kobo per share after shielding off N-0.15 kobo to drop from the opening price of N1.54 kobo per share. NPF Microfinance Bank completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with N1.18 kobo per share, declining by N-0.13 kobo from the N1.31 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were GTBank, which traded volume of over  10.8 million units worth N244.6 million. First Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 9.7 million units worth over N49.1 million. UBA was next on the list, trading 9.4 million units worth N58.5 million.

Ecobank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 6 million units traded at cost of over N25.4 million, while Sterling Bank completed the top five list with over 5.8 million units traded today, worth N6.9 million.
