'The Milkmaid' Director Reacts To Oscars 2021 Snub

Desmond Ovbiagele, the director of Milkmaid, has responded to the movie failing to make the Oscars 2021 shortlist in the International Feature Film (IFF) category.

All News Nigeria had reported that The Milkmaid, a movie about a Fulani girl who embarks on a quest to locate her sister who went missing, was chosen by the Nigerian Oscars Committee to contend in the IFF category but was not chosen among the 15 films shortlisted for the next round of voting.

Now, Ovbiagele ( an investment-banker-turned-filmmaker) stated that he is proud of what the film's Oscar run has meant for the cast and crew involved in the project.

Speaking via a recent press release, he said, "We wanted to tell a story that reflected the impact and complexities of religious insurgency in Nigeria on those who experience it by force or by choice."

"Achieving that and being recognized as belonging among the best in international storytelling through film is an incredible honour and we are thrilled that we've opened the door for a greater diversity of stories to be told."
