Vietnamese Court Sentences 25-Year-Old Nigerian To Death For

A 25-year-old Nigerian named Unachukwu Chiluba Paulinus has been sentenced to death on Tuesday, April 13, in Vietnam for his involvement in transporting narcotics into the country from Cambodia.

Paulinus was arrested on February 19, 2020, in the Pheng area of Thuan Tay hamlet in Loi Thuan commune, Ben Cau district while transporting almost three kilograms of methamphetamine.

He disclosed to the police that he arrived in the country in 2019 and met an African named Oscar who hired him to transport drugs from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City for $2,000. Paulinus said he was paid $650 in advance.

Paulinus traveled via taxi from Phnom Penh to the border where he crossed over into Vietnam and was apprehended by the Ben Cau district police.

He confessed to having transported a backpack with drugs from Cambodia to HCM City previously, making the delivery to an unidentified male. His death sentence is based on Clause 4 in Article 250 of the 2015 Penal Code, as reported by the local media.
