The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos was bombarded on Monday morning by aggrieved students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to protest the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The students, amid heavy security and rain, stopped both local and international passengers from embarking on their planned trips in a bid to coerce the federal government into meeting the demands of the striking lectures and extensively resuming academic activities.

The protesters were in a video seen dancing around while singing solidarity songs.

NANS had over the weekend threatened to shut down airports to communicate their grievances to the government.

Several car owners were also trapped in their cars due to the gridlock created by the protesting students.

Speaking briefly with the South-West Coordinator of NANS, Adegboye Olatunji, The Punch reports that the students are unmoved even with the mobilisation of security agencies on the protest ground.

“Yeah, they mobilised heavy security, but we’re undaunted. We’re there on standby,” Olatunji said.

The readjourned court case between the federal government and ASUU is due for sitting today, September 19, 2022, AllNews reports.
