Personal life

Bnxn (pronounced as Benson), previously known as Buju, is a Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter who was born on May 14, 1997, in Lagos and is originally from Akwa Ibom state.

He spent his childhood in Gbagada with his family before moving to Ogun State. He was formerly signed to Spaceship Records owned by Burna Boy.

Career

Under the management of T.Y.E/EMPIRE, BNXN dropped his ‘Sorry I’m Late’ EP on October 27, 2021, featuring guest appearances from The Cavemen and production from various artists. The EP was mixed and mastered by Vtek and Poppil.

Buju’s ‘Sorry I’m Late’ tour began with his first show in London on November 30, while his first sold-out concert was held on December 22, 2021, at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos.

In March 2022, he collaborated with Pheelz on the single ‘Finesse’ and in July 2022, he was featured on the Jae5 song ‘Propeller’ with British rapper Dave.

The latter became his first Top 40 single in the United Kingdom.

Bnxn won The Headies 2022 Next Rated award on 4 September 2022 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

In 2022, the singer officially changed his name from ‘Buju’ to BNXN. Although it was not specified by the singer himself, fans noted that his decision to change his name was likely due to confusion with another Jamaican singer, Buju Banton.
