Orlu: Biafra Activist, Nnamdi Kanu Condemns Events In Imo S

Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu has criticised Monday's gun duel between soldiers of the Nigerian Army and members of his outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

AllNews understands that many of the IPOB members are also men of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a vigilante group diaspora-based Kanu said he created "to curb insecurity in the region".

Recall AllNews had earlier reported on Monday that the 'Operation Search and Flush' a combined team of security agencies in Imo State, comprising of the Police, Army, Airforce, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confronted Nnamdi Kanu's loyalists in Okporo Orlu in Imo State.

Reacting to the events in Imo, Kanu via his known Twitter handle bemoaned the clash.

"@USinNigeria @UKinNigeria @EUinNigeria @IsraelinNigeria @StateDept @UN, This is @HQNigerianArmy that you have been funding for years that couldn't defeat Fulani Herdsmen, #BokoHaram ISWAP, Fulani Bandits etc. but has power to kill civilians in ORLU today," Kanu wrote.

The 53-year-old is slated to make his routine broadcast later today (7 pm Nigerian time).

In a similar vein, a former Minister of Aviation in Nigeria, Femi Fani-Kayode called for restraint on both sides.

"The clash between soldiers and members ESN in Orlu, Imo state today has resulted in some deaths and this is unfortunate," Fani-Kayode wrote.

"I call for restraint on both sides. The soldiers ought to be deployed against killer herdsmen and not ESN. When will Buhari learn. Chidera Agu please stay safe."
