Personal Life

John Boyega was born in Peckham, London, the son of Nigerian parents. He has two sisters and his father is a Pentecostal minister.


He had his secondary school education at Westminster City School and attended South Thames College from 2008 to 2010, earning a National Diploma in Performing Arts.

Boyega enrolled at the University of Greenwich to obtain a degree in Film Studies and Media Writing but dropped out to focus on his acting career.

The actor was trained at the Identity School of Acting, London.


Boyega was cast in the boxing drama Da Brick, loosely based on Mike Tyson's life, and was subsequently given the lead role in the low-budget science-fiction movie Attack the Block (2011).

He was cast in the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun in March 2012. Two years later, he got a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he played the role of Finn. He reprised the part in the film's two sequels.

In January 2016, Boyega started his own production company, Upperroom Entertainment Limited. He portrayed the character of Jake Pentecost in Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018);
