Oil and Gas Index Ticks Up As Conoil Tops Gainers List

The Oil and gas index climbed 0.34% to 265.10 points on Wednesday, ending a rather bearish run for the month as companies such as Conoil and Eterna posted significant gains.

The All-Share Index edged up 0.29% to 39128.34 points as trading closed with 3,746 deals valued at over N1.66 billion. The Banking Index rose 2.25 percent on Wednesday to 357.89 index points — its highest intraday increase for the month of April as the banking sector remained the most traded sector.

Top 5 Advancers

Market data retrieved by Allnews showed that Conoil was today's top gainer as it finally broke out of a longstanding flat price of N17.05 with a 9.97 percent gain worth N1.70 to close trading at N18.75.

Studio Press Nig Plc followed closely with a 9.88 percent gain worth 16kobo to close at N1.78 per share.

Eterna Plc gained 9.48 percent, or 55kobo at the end of today's trading to close at N6.35 per share.

University Press Plc climbed 9.4 percent, or 11kobo to close at N1.28 per share.

Lafarge Africa Plc (WAPCO) gained 6.83 percent, or N1.40 to close trading at N20.5 per share.

Top 5 Decliners

Guinness Nig Plc was today's top decliner, dropping 9.89 percent, or N3.15 to close trading at N28.70 per share.

Portland Paints and Products followed closely with a 9.85 percent dip worth 26kobo to close trading at N2.38 per share.

Academy Press Plc recorded a 9.76 percent drop worth 4kobo to close at 37kobo per share.

Learn Africa Plc declined 8.26 percent, or 9kobo, to close trading at N1.00 per share.

Regency Assurance Plc completes the list, declining 7.41 percent, or 2kobo to close trading at 25kobo per share.

Most Traded Stocks

Trade volumes remained concentrated in the banking sector, with Zenith Bank Plc being the most traded stock, closing the day with 329 trades valued at N276.7 million.

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the send most traded, and stock with the top turnover with 310 trades valued at N423.1 million.

Access Bank Plc, being the top active trade for today, was the third most traded stock with 255 trades valued at N213.2 million.

Fidelity Bank Plc, the second most active for today, closed the day with 199 trades valued at N38.42 million.

UBA Plc completes today's list as it closed with 152 trades valued at N50.29 million.
